| Question: | What are the most important things I should know about floating in the Bullhead City River Regatta? |
| Answer: | 1) Wear a life jacket! The Colorado River is a real river with real currents and real rocks and real hazards. And, a life jacket is a real life saver! 2) Drink water! It's hot and dry! 3) Wear water shoes or sneakers! Flip flops will come off and you'll be climbing out of the river over hot rocks and sand... barefooted! (Ouch!!) 4) Bring some extra cash! The Hafta Afta party has food and beverages and all kinds of stuff. (A dollar is still a dollar, even when it's wet!) |
| Question: | When is the 2010 BHC River Regatta? |
| Answer: | August 14, 2010 |
| Question: | When is the "Ye Gotta Regatta" Party |
| Answer: | Friday, August 13, 2010 5pm - 10pm at Community Park |
| Question: | How much does it cost to enter the Regatta ? |
| Answer: | Early registration is $15 per person... gets you an event T-shirt, meal ticket and entry into the biggest, funnest, wettest event on the Colorado River! After August 10th, registration is $20! |
| Question: | Where can I register in person? |
| Answer: | ONLINE REGISTRATION ENDS AT 5 P.M. AUGUST 10th! August 11th - Aug. 14th registration is $20 and moves to the Bullhead Area Chamber of Commerce (next to Community Park) 1251 Highway 95, lower level.
|
| Question: | Why should I pay to float in the Regatta? |
| Answer: | T-shirt, hot dog and beverage, being an official participant in the most unique, fun and fastest growing event on the Colorado River. This is a seriously non-profit event and takes a lot of help and services from many organizations and agencies. And, remember this: It will be HOT, ARIZONA HOT during the regatta, and your registration gets you A SHUTTLE BUS RIDE BACK TO YOUR CAR!! |
| Question: | Can I be a sponsor? |
| Answer: | Yes! Call 928-763-0158 ... let's talk sponsor packages! |
| Question: | How early can we drop off floats? |
| Answer: | Friday evening at Community Park and Davis Dam. Security will be provided. |
| Question: | Will there be air pumps available? |
| Answer: | Yes. "Filling Stations" will be set up at Community Park and Davis Camp. (It will be crowded, so bring your own foot pump if you can.) |
| Question: | Where do we park and how do we get back to our vehicles after the regatta? |
| Answer: | We suggest people drop their floats off at Community Park, drive their vehicles to Rotary and park there. Then, take the Regatta shuttle back to Community Park. This way, your vehicle will be close when you come ashore. |
| Question: | What time do we launch?? |
| Answer: | 9 a.m. - Davis Camp |
| Question: | How long is the float? How long will it take? |
| Answer: | From Community Park, about 8 miles. From Davis Camp, about 9 miles. It takes about 3-4 hours to float. |
| Question: | Can we rent inner tubes, floats, and life jackets? |
| Answer: | Maybe. There may be vendors offering tube and life jacket rentals, but it's going to be crowded and supplies will be limited. Check your local department stores, tire stores, sporting good stores... (or ask dad to yank an inner tube out of the Rambler!) |
| Question: | Do I have to wear my life vest throughout the entire float? |
| Answer: | Yes! Yes! Yes! Despite it's placid appearance, the current of the Colorado River can challenge even the strongest swimmers. Add to that eddies, docks, sun and fatigue and a Coast Guard approved life vest will become, well, a life saver. That's why Everyone in the Regatta MUST wear their properly fitted, Coast Guard approved life vests the entire time. We want to see you at the end having fun. |
| Question: | How many people do you expect this year? |
| Answer: | Event orginizers are preparing for the biggest and best Regatta yet and are estimating over 10,000 participants! |
| Question: | Where do competing floats launch this year? |
| Answer: | ALL floats competing for prizes will launch from Davis Camp, north of the Laughlin bridge on the Arizona side of the river. All competing floats are required to have a personal watercraft (PWC) attached to the float for safety and to keep a parade line formation down the river... like the Rose Bowl Parade! |
| Question: | What do you need to float on an inner tube on a river?? |
| Answer: | An inner tube or float, life jacket, plenty of water (it's hot!), waterproof sunscreen (IT'S HOT!), hat or shade (did you miss the HOT part?). For more tips, click here... E-how.com |
| Question: | Where did the term "Rock and Roll" come from? |
| Answer: | The term "rocking and rolling" originally described the motion of a ship on the water (appropriate for Regatta, huh?!) and was used in spiritual songs in the early 1900s. In the 1930s various forms of the phrase started showing up in songs. The "Rock and Roll" we know today originated in 1951 when Cleveland disc jockey Alan Freed used it on the air to describe the unique, music format of rhythm and blues and country he played on his show. So, rock on, floaters! |
